Reproducción de Villa Rotonda, también llamada Villa Capra.

Reproduction of Villa Rotonda, also called Villa Capra.

This building has an important position in the history of art. Built during the Mannierism (last Reinassance stage that announces italian  Barroque beginning) by Andrea Palladio, is part of his treatise "The four books of architecture", for me one of the most influential works of classical architecture.

It is said that it is inspired by the Pantheon in Rome and it has also inspired many later buildings.

It has a central plan, surmounted by a dome, an element that until that time was only used in religious buildings. In the image of the plant you can check some of the features of the building: symmetry, simple forms, harmony and especially rigorous. Behind Villa Rotonda there is an in-depth study of proportions. This shape reminds me of  "Vetruvio man" of  Leonardo Da Vinci", a genious of the Renaissance period.

The scheme is as follows: four symmetrical classical façades, 4 accesses via staircases giving access to 4 small galleries, surmounted by a pediment decorated with classical sculptures (which resembles the Greek temples). After a small corridor the four access meet at a circular nave, topped by a dome.

Images of the interior. Decoration took a long time and was carried out by numerous artists as sculptors (Rubini and Albanese) and painters (Rubini, Rifoldi, Fontana etc). The walls are decorated with frescoes mainly with religious and mythological themes.

Detail of the inner Dome, from where the vision of the interior of the villa is even more beautiful.

I confess another passion: the furniture and the decoratíon. I believe that the study of the furniture and interiors of each era is a powerful tool to understand lifestyles, tastes and the evolution of artistic styles.

In real life this building was built in 1566 and is located on the outskirts of the city of Vicenza, Italy.
