Melioria. La Villa.

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

Reproducción de Villa Rotonda, también llamada Villa Capra.

Reproduction of Villa Rotonda, also called Villa Capra.

This building has an important position in the history of art. Built during the Mannierism (last Reinassance stage that announces italian  Barroque beginning) by Andrea Palladio, is part of his treatise "The four books of architecture", for me one of the most influential works of classical architecture.

It is said that it is inspired by the Pantheon in Rome and it has also inspired many later buildings.

It has a central plan, surmounted by a dome, an element that until that time was only used in religious buildings. In the image of the plant you can check some of the features of the building: symmetry, simple forms, harmony and especially rigorous. Behind Villa Rotonda there is an in-depth study of proportions. This shape reminds me of  "Vetruvio man" of  Leonardo Da Vinci", a genious of the Renaissance period.

The scheme is as follows: four symmetrical classical façades, 4 accesses via staircases giving access to 4 small galleries, surmounted by a pediment decorated with classical sculptures (which resembles the Greek temples). After a small corridor the four access meet at a circular nave, topped by a dome.

Images of the interior. Decoration took a long time and was carried out by numerous artists as sculptors (Rubini and Albanese) and painters (Rubini, Rifoldi, Fontana etc). The walls are decorated with frescoes mainly with religious and mythological themes.

Detail of the inner Dome, from where the vision of the interior of the villa is even more beautiful.

I confess another passion: the furniture and the decoratíon. I believe that the study of the furniture and interiors of each era is a powerful tool to understand lifestyles, tastes and the evolution of artistic styles.

In real life this building was built in 1566 and is located on the outskirts of the city of Vicenza, Italy.

Melioria. Grand Tour.

Sunday, January 29, 2012

¿Habeis oido hablar del "Grand Tour"?

Have you ever heard of the "Grand Tour"?

Melioria sim is designed to explain what it meant. Many young bourgeois upper class and aristocrats made a formative and pleasure trip mainly in Europe. Dates approximated are:1670 (year of publication of the work trip or entire voyage by Italy of Richard Lassels) until 1820 (year in which the railroad acquired a massive role).

What is the important thing about this movement in my point of view? It helped to extend the interest in art and culture among European countries and broke artistic borders. If you want to know more I advise you to visit Melioria, living it in person will give a new perspective. Then you will understand the educational side of the sim.

Amigos de Melioria.

Estoy entusiasmada.

I am excited. I just had an encounter with Melioria inhabitants. I could see in person what being part of this community means. On the one hand is a journey back in time: furniture, clothing, environment creat a back  in time atmospheare. But on the other hand it is also a place where you find very interesting and friendly people. I would like to thank to Summer Serendipity to help me so much in my integration with the inhabitants of Melioria, Candace Ducatillon for her kindness, Mercury Gandt, Leary Macpherson, Joan Fairweather, MariaLouisa Muircastle. thank you all for making my stay in so nice in Melioria.

By the way, a blog from the point of view of Melioria inhabitant:

Gracias!

Many doubts if posting this or not :). I want to include the image and landmark of some of SL places on the right of the blog and I have no idea how to do it, can anyone help me? Thanks!

This blog has many motivations:

* My main motivation is to use SL as a platform for reflection. Analyze locations, buildings, events, artists, taking advantage of the good things of this community.

* Combine this reflection with my experience in real life, giving a new dimension. And demonstrating that in my view they feed each other.

* Being a print of my travel in Secondlife. Many sims disappear, who knows when my second life will also finish. I want to make this blog an album of memories of everything that I have received.

* And above all I want to share with you an exciting journey that began one evening in September.

I hope to increase this list as blog developes. Thank you all for being part of it.

Melioria. Proyecto real.

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

Melioria: the bridge between the first and second life.

Melioria is a real and imaginary place. For me it represents the most direct bridge between history and creativity. Because the culture used in a smart way can be fun. And this is the case of this place.

After talking with owners and architects of the sim I have come to the conclusion that keep a project like this requires effort. All those who are part of this project firmly believed in the usefulness of new technologies to make education more accessible. And I also. That is why it seems so important to include places like this in my blog.

We will visit the reproduction of Andrea Palladio's Villa Rotonda, we will walk through the streets of Melioria, set in the time of the Grand Tour (17TH-18th century), we will have very interesting chats with people who keep alive the Sim and firmly believe in this project. And above all enjoy the pleasure of seeing together: art, culture and new technologies.

Holanda. Rietveld.
